How to make buttermilk brownies

First sift together all the dry ingredients (luckily you got a flour sifter for one of your wedding presents).  Then get out the wet ingredients and realize you have none of them.

Run to the store and buy eggs, sugar, powder sugar, and butter.

Continue your cooking upon returning from a successful and very quick trip to walmart.

While to brownies are cooking in a 9x5 pan (since you don't have and aren't quite sure what a sheet cake pan is or looks like) and realize that they will have to cook twice as long as instructed to make up for the difference.  While they are cooking melt crazy amounts of butter and sugar to make a buttermilk frosting.

Slice and arrange beautifully on a decorative plate once they have completely cooled and get ready to party (which since this is a part full of women, you will be taking more than half of your delicious sweet treats back home with you at the end)

Good luck and enjoy!

Buttermilk Brownies

2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
3 Tbs. Cocoa
1/2 tsp salt
1 Cup cold water
1/2 c butter
1/2 c canola oil
1 tsp baking soda
2 eggs
1/2 c buttermilk

Sift together the sugar, flour, cocoa, and salt.  In saucepan, combine water, butter, and oil.  Bring to a boil and pour over the dry ingredients.  Mix until creamy.  Add buttermilk, baking soda, and eggs.  Spread into floured sheet cake pan and bake at 400 degrees for 15-18 minutes.  While baking make frosting:

1/2 cup butter
3 Tbs. cocoa
1/3 Cup buttermilk
4 cups powder sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
pinch of salt
chopped walnuts (optional)

Bring buttermilk, cocoa, butter and salt to a boil stirring constantly.  Remove from heat and add powder sugar and vanilla.  Beat until smooth.  Frost Warm Brownies and sprinkle with nuts.

PS:  These are not the greatest... I would suggest making carmilitas over these any days... those are the real crowd pleaser :)
